Dear friends,
Last night all of us played and eventually we beat our opponents by a thin margin of 9 IMPs. It was a nice evening, we made our mistakes, but their team made more than us.
In the first half, I would like to stand on board 3 and on board 8. Board 3 was a gross example of how a strong Club system, using artificial bidding, can obliterate natural bidding systems; in the best case scenario we’d bid and make game. However, in my opinion it was, also, our obvious mistake. I think that North’s decision to pass 2 Hearts was wrong.

Board 8 was, I think, a case of miscounting on the 9th trick (6 Spades). It does happen, sometimes, though it should not.
In the second half, I will stand on board 2 and board 4. Board 2 was an example of a defending issue, the 3NT bid was not makeable 100%. I believe that myself and Venetia could’ve defended better. The 4th trick was, seemingly, the issue.

Board 4, was, in my opinion, a mistake of not identifying very weak hands on behalf of our opponents. Of course, the language barrier and the “multi” bid of 2 Diamonds did most of the damage, as Venetia couldn’t bid naturally her hand and when she did, after her initial pass, I wrongfully hesitated to bid 3NT, doubting of her strength. On the other table, the weak 2 Spades did not deter NS from bidding and making 3NT.

Next Wednesday we are facing the team of Poznań (Magadan2 is the captain). I will send you the descriptive analysis of the hands by email, at some point. Don’t hesitate to leave a comment! Best regards for now and enjoy the rest of the week.
